CROSSFORKS--It's always a sign that spring has arrived when it's time for Kettle Creek Hose Company of Cross Fork to hold their annual fireman's banquet, an evening of likeminded fellowship where volunteers from all across Clinton and Potter County come together to talk about what was accomplished over the previous year as well was goals for 2019.
Over 100 people attended the banquet including representatives of fire companies from Renovo Fire Department, Citizen's Hose Company of South Renovo, Germania, Black Forest, Galeton and hosts Kettle Creek as well as Cross Fork Ambulance. Invited guests that made the trek to Cross Fork included Clinton County Commissioners Jeff Snyder and Paul Conklin, Potter County Commissioner Sue Kefover, as well as representatives from DCNR, Bucktail Medical Center and Dominion Energy.
Kettle Creek Chief Barry Fritzinger gave a recap of what the rural fire company was looked upon to do last year which included 81 calls ranging from fires, motor vehicle accidents, medical assists, land rescues, hazardous conditions and so on.
Friztinger also played a short slide show of the May 29th 1977 dedication of the Kettle Creek firehouse. Although the majority of Cross Forkians have passed since that time that were in the photographs an impressive half of dozen original volunteers that remain active to this day and were at the annual banquet.
The Chief recognized all of the line officers of the hose company with a small plaque thanking them for another year of service and their volunteerism. Fritzinger also presented a plaque of appreciation to Nikki Werts who has over two decades of service to the company as a membership secretary as well as overseeing the annual snake hunt horshoe tournament and vendors.
Bucktail Medical Center CEO Tim Reeves proudly reported that just a couple of days earlier on March 25th the BMC celebrated its one year anniversary of emerging from bankruptcy. According to Reeves only 7.5% of entities that file Chapter 11 make it out of bankruptcy and only 50% of those make it to the one year anniversary.
Reeves as able to talk about improvements that the Center has been making highlighted by a CT scanner. Many of the upgrades at Bucktail positively affect the group of emergency responder volunteers in the room that evening.
