LOCK HAVEN – A Lock Haven woman arrested in August by city police after allegedly accepting money for sex from an undercover officer was sentenced to three years of probation Tuesday.

Dezzarae Ann Cross, 19, of Clinton Street, had been charged with criminal attempt/prostitution, possession of a controlled substance and criminal attempt/recklessly endangering another person.

The endangering charge, police said, stemmed from the fact that Cross is Hepatitis C positive and offered the undercover agent 30 minutes of unprotected sexual intercourse.

Originally jailed, she has been released on $75,000 unsecured bail.

Hepatitis C is a contagious form of viral hepatitis transmitted in infected blood, causing chronic liver disease that ranges in severity from a mild illness lasting a few weeks to a serious, lifelong illness that attacks the liver.

The arrest followed an investigation into advertisements Cross had posted on www.backpage.com.

Cross was also fined $500, and was placed on probation for 12 months on the attempted prostitution charge, and was given 24 months of probation on the charge of attempted reckless endangering.

The two terms of probation were to run consecutively, according to Clinton County Judge Michael Salisbury, who also ordered a drug and alcohol evaluation, treatment programming, monitoring of any prescribed medication, and the wearing of a drug patch to detect any violations of substance abuse.
