LINDEN — The driver who died Tuesday morning when his empty tri-axle logging truck went off Route 220 and landed in heavy brush in Woodward Township, Lycoming County, just south of the Williamsport city line, was identified as William Mundy, of Avis.
Investigators have determined that the 61-year-old Clinton County man died of natural causes, according to Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling, Jr.
Heading north on Route 220, Mundy suddenly veered off the highway and traveled 50 to 70 yards into brush, striking several trees, Kiessling said.
Township firefighters said the driver was in cardiac arrest when they arrived on the scene.
Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
The crash occurred about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, and Northbound traffic was down to one lane for about five hours, according to a spokeswoman with the state Department of Transportation.
The wreckage, enshrouded by thick brush, was not visible from the four-lane highway.
A team of accident reconstructionists was also at the scene.
