Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank has lots of pairs to choose from

PHOTO PROVIDED The Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank has put grant money and donations to good use and currently has more pairs of free, new, good quality shoes than it has shelf space. The Shoe Bank will be open for eligible kids and teens on Saturday, April 15. To book your time slot, call or text Diahann at 814-571-5324 (weekdays 7-9 p.m., please).

LOCK HAVEN — Thanks to grants and donations, the Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank seems filled with sneakers and other shoes right now. Volunteers hope to give away lots of pairs when the Shoe Bank is open on Saturday, April 15.

Eligible kids and teens should come and look for a free new pair of good quality shoes. The Shoe Bank is located inside Covenant United Methodist Church, 44 W. Main St., Lock Haven.

Appointments are needed, and are now being taken for April 15 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Children and teens (up to age 18 or if still a high school student) may pick out free new shoes, socks and books every six months. They are eligible if their family has an active Compass app or summary sheet and lives in Clinton County or the Liberty-Curtin Elementary School attendance area. Families who don’t have Compass may be referred by an agency.

Be ready to show your Compass App or summary sheet at every visit, and wear a mask when you visit.

To book your appointment, call or text Diahann at 814-571-5324 (weekdays 7-9 p.m. please). Leave a message and she will contact you when she builds the schedule. Please state if you are new to the program, how many boys and girls are coming and if there are any special requests or needs.

You may even contact Diahann on April 15, the day the Shoe Bank is open, just in case a time slot has become available.

If you are ill, please call to reschedule. And please let Diahann know if you need to cancel for any reason, since she keeps a waiting list.

Volunteers are always welcome. Those who cannot help on Shoe Bank Saturdays are welcome to help with set-up every Thursday afternoon from 1:30-5 p.m..

Anyone who knows a family who may benefit from this service is asked to pass the word along.

Funding is provided by the Clinton County Community Foundation, the Wayne Township Landfill’s Hoy Golf Tournament, an M&T Bank grant, civic groups, churches and individual donors.
