Western square dancing

Western square dancing was popular in our region of Pennsylvania 50 to 60 years ago. Pictured above are, from left, Betty and Bill Ake, Margo and Tony Piper, Fee and Lloyd Phillips, Peg and Lee Deitrich and John and Rose Minnie Akeley of Lock Haven. They are believed to be dancing in Lock Haven City Hall’s on the second floor. We thank Connie Ake Rishell and Bill Ake for the names of those in the picture. Additional information about the specific dancing the group is doing was given to us by Sharon Wagner. Sharon believes the group is participating in Western round dancing, which is similar to square dancing but is performed in a large circle. Thank you Sharon for the information.
