Amish Benefit Dinner set for Saturday afternoon
HOWARD — Held in the town of Hublersburg, the Nittany Valley Benefit Dinner is a community dinner featuring a traditional Amish home cooked wedding-style meal. The popular fall dinner will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20. The buffet-style dinner will be held from noon to 7 p.m. at the Walker Township Fire Hall.
This all-you-can-eat buffet is offered in seven time slots for you to choose from: noon to 1 p.m., 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and finally 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Remember that the 5-6 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. seats fill up fairly fast and you may have to wait to be seated.
The main course meal features roasted chicken and filling, along with seasoned ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, baked beans, noodles and cheese, freshly baked bread, cold slaw, apple salad and creamed celery. There’s lemonade, coffee and tea to drink.
The desserts are absolutely scrumptious and there are so many to choose from. From homemade pies in a variety of flavors, donuts, ice cream and vanilla pudding round out the meal.
The foods have been prepared by the best Amish cooks in the community, and their friendly youth will help you fill your plates and pour your drinks.
Prices are $22 per adult (18 & over); $20 for seniors (65 & over); $20 for children (12 to 17) and $9 for children (5 to 11). Children ages four and younger get to eat for free. Walk-ins are welcome, however, reservations/advanced ticket purchases are recommended to reduce your waiting time. Take-out meals are $20 each.
After the meal, visit the Market Stand, where a variety of tasty treats and items will be available for you to purchase and take along home.
The Nittany Valley Benefit Dinner proceeds will go towards helping families offset the costs associated with the Amish parochial schools in the area. The schools don’t accept government aid, but instead, this benefit is used to fund the needs at the schools.
