Penn College Workforce Development announces rebranding

WILLIAMSPORT — Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Workforce Development division has consolidated its program units under a single, cohesive brand, a move that reinforces the department’s aim to complement and extend the mission of the college.

The rebranded Penn College Workforce Development will continue to build skills, improve processes and deliver results that drive success through an array of training programs tailored to meet the evolving needs of the workforce — but branded as one unit, rather than separate entities.

Previously, Workforce Development encompassed several distinct program areas, including apprenticeships, business/leadership, clean energy, computer, health sciences, safety & emergency services, industrial, online courses, plastics, pre-apprenticeships, and transportation, along with three named centers: the Clean Energy Center, the Apprenticeship Center and the Plastics Innovation & Resource Center.

Moving forward, these entities will be integrated under the Penn College Workforce Development brand. Seven key program areas have been reframed to better align with industry needs: building performance, business and leadership, health sciences, manufacturing, polymers, transportation, and tailored workforce solutions. Each area will continue to offer specialized services while functioning as part of a cohesive unit dedicated to delivering hands-on education and fostering strong partnerships with business and industry.

“Our mission is to complement and extend the mission of Penn College by providing needed training, consulting and product development services to improve skill levels and competitiveness for our clients,” said Alison A. Diehl, vice president for Penn College Workforce Development. “This change is a reflection of our commitment to that mission. We’re consolidating our program units under a single, cohesive brand with the college front and center — Penn College Workforce Development. In doing so, we are strengthening our connection to the college, strengthening our brand recognition, recognizing operational efficiencies and cost savings, and affording consistency across our department.”

The rebrand helps the college boost visibility, build trust, open doors and support growth by scaling and adapting to industry demands.

“Industry partnerships are truly at the heart of what we do,” Diehl said. “By working closely with employers, we’re able to design training programs that reflect the real skills and competencies needed in today’s workplaces. These relationships help us deliver meaningful results — whether we’re guiding someone toward a new career path or helping a seasoned employee grow in their role.”

And, she said, the benefits go both ways. Collaborating with businesses allows the workforce development team to gain valuable insight into emerging technologies, evolving skill gaps and the challenges employers face each day. The feedback helps with shaping career exploration for new entrants and advanced training for incumbent workers, keeping programs relevant, responsive and impactful.

In addition to Williamsport’s on-campus offices and labs, Penn College Workforce Development also operates four satellite locations. Penn College at Latrobe, Penn College at Harrisburg and Penn College at Pittsburgh all are primarily training facilities for building performance programs, while Penn College at Wellsboro is used for the practical nursing and emergency medical technician programs.

“While each location has traditionally focused on specific programs, we see an opportunity to strengthen Penn College’s presence across the region, create more meaningful local connections and ensure that all of our training resources are working together to benefit both employers and the college as a whole,” Diel said.

Penn College Workforce Development offers solutions for businesses and employers, individuals seeking career advancement, educational institutions, community organizations and government agencies. Services include consulting and technical assistance, pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship, training programs, and workforce solutions.

“This rebranding is a strategic move to better reflect the depth and breadth of workforce solutions we offer,” Diehl said. “By aligning more closely with Penn College’s brand, we’re making it easier for employers to recognize the full value of our services and strengthening our role as a trusted partner in workforce development.”
