LOCK HAVEN — Flash & Sirens of Clinton County, LLC recognized Grady Bowman and Joe Shady for their quick and selfless response to a motorcycle crash that occurred on March 30, at approximately 7:10 p.m. outside Pizza King in Lock Haven.
According to reports, a motorcycle lost control and crashed behind a parked vehicle. The operator separated from the motorcycle moments before impact, and the bike quickly became engulfed in flames.
In the moments that followed, Bowman, an employee at Pizza King, immediately recognized the severity of the situation and called for someone to contact 911. He then retrieved a fire extinguisher and began actively suppressing the flames.
Bowman later stated that, aside from prior safety training during his time at a career and technology center, he had never used a fire extinguisher in a real-world emergency.
Shady, a fellow employee, also helped manage the situation and prevent further escalation.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
In recognition of their actions, Flash & Sirens presented both Bowman and Shady with the Flash & Sirens Community Response Award, honoring their swift decision-making, courage and commitment to the safety of others.
“Your willingness to step forward in a critical moment reflects outstanding character, awareness and dedication to the community,” the award citation reads. “Your actions embody the spirit of service that Flash & Sirens stands for.”
Bowman expressed gratitude that the individual involved in the crash was unharmed and stated he was honored to receive the recognition. While Shady was unable to attend the presentation, he also received his certificate.
Bowman currently works at Pizza King and shared his goal of one day owning the business.
