Lock Haven Dollar General remains closed

From Staff Reports

LOCK HAVEN – It’s been over a week since the Dollar General at 16 E. Main St., Lock Haven closed suddenly and questions about the reason for the closing and when the store might reopen began circulating throughout the community.

There were rumors, but no answers.

Yesterday afternoon The Express received a brief reply to its request for information about the store’s closing from Dollar General’s corporate headquarters.

“Dollar General strives to provide a pleasant shopping experience for our customers and work environment for our employees. In line with this commitment, we are working to address store conditions at our Lock Haven store, and we plan to keep the store closed until matters can be resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers,” Angela Petkovic of the company’s public relations department wrote.

It was mid-afternoon on Monday, July 29, when Dollar General manager Denise Younkin announced that the store would be closing.

A “closed until further notice” sign is taped on the entrance to the store, and the lights inside remain on daily.

Lock Haven City Code Enforcement Officer Cyndi Walker said she hasn’t heard anything aside from the talk throughout town.

“There wasn’t any action through my office,” she said.

The one-story business is owned by Realtylease Properties out of Lock Haven. When contacted by the Express, an employee said she could not comment on the store’s closing.

Meanwhile, would-be shoppers continue to walk to the front door, read the sign and walk away.

Starting at $3.69/week.
