Howard Happenings

SWEETHEART DINNER

Howard Area Lions Club will host its annual Sweetheart Dinner tomorrow (Feb. 8) at the Howard fire hall at noon. The meal is free and open to anyone in our local Lions service area that is 60 years of age or older. Come early for good food, fun and fellowship.

CEMETERY ASSOCIATION

The Blanchard Baptist Cemetery Association is asking for donations to pay for the upkeep of the cemetery. The cemetery is located beside the Liberty Baptist Church but the church does not financially support the cemetery. Funds are running extremely low and it would be a nice gesture for those who have loved ones buried at the cemetery to make a monetary donation in honor of those loved ones so that the cemetery can be mowed and kept nice this summer.

The last time the cemetery association asked for financial help was in 2013, so it’s important that we take this matter seriously and make sure that funds are provided as a way of showing our respect and honor to those buried there. Donations can be mailed to Carol Robison at PO Box 93, Mingoville, PA 16856.

This cemetery may be a perfect project for a student looking to fulfill their senior project requirements. Perhaps a fund-raiser or benefit could be organized to help raise money for the Blanchard Baptist Cemetery. You may call Carol if you have any questions at 814-383-4258.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Bald Eagle State Park will have a Waterfowl Watch on Feb. 8 from 9-11 a.m. at the Winter Launch fishing pier. You’ll be able to experience a morning of bird watching and will become acquainted with the waterfowl that live and migrate through our area. Bring your binoculars and dress for the outdoor weather.

In the afternoon from 1-3 p.m. there will be an open house at the Environmental Learning Center at the park. You’ll be able to learn about the animals that live in Pennsylvania and how they survive the winter months. For more info about events at Bald Eagle State Park you may call 814-625-9369.

Howard Area Lions will have a blood drive at the Howard fire hall on Feb. 12 from 1:30 to 7 p.m. All blood donor types are needed, especially since some regular donors may have a cold and wouldn’t be able to donate.

Lions Club Bingo will be held on Feb. 13 and Feb. 27 at the Beech Creek Fire Company social hall. Doors and the kitchen open at 5 and bingo games begin at 6:30.

Howard Area Lions Food Bank distribution will be on Monday, Feb. 17, from 2-4 at the former Beech Creek Elementary School for Beech Creek area residents and those from Centre County who missed their distribution date earlier this month. Bring your box back each month so that the Lions have it to reuse each month.

Howard United Methodist Church will have a soup sale luncheon on Feb. 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church fellowship hall. A bowl of soup, roll, a piece of pie and your drink is $6. Take-out quarts of soup are $6 and can be pre-ordered by calling Patti at 814-625-2182 before Feb. 17.

Liberty Township Sportsmen’s Club will offer Clubhouse Bingo on Feb. 20. Doors and the kitchen open at 5 and the early bird game begins at 6:15.
