Howard man arrested on murder charge

ANTHONY BOONE
CLEARFIELD — A Howard man has been arrested on a murder charge, according to authorities in Clearfield County.
According to numerous published reports, Anthony Grant Boone, 36, of Richner Hollow Road in Howard is accused of murdering a Hyde woman on Thursday afternoon. There was a manhunt for Boone, who shot himself on Friday after being cornered by police, Clearfield County District Attorney Ryan Sayers told The Progress of Clearfield.
Boone survived the self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to Penn Highlands Clearfield for treatment of his injury. There was no report on Boone’s condition from Penn Highlands.
The manhunt for Boone didn’t take long. On Friday around 10 a.m., a person matching Boone’s description was seen between Clearfield and Curwensville near the railroad tracks in the Old Erie Pike Area, according to several published reports.
Police officers from Lawrence Township, Clearfield Borough and State Police at Clearfield responded to the scene. Boone was found near the Hogback Bridge around 1:45 p.m. Boone had a firearm in his possession. Police gave him commands to drop the weapon, but instead he shot himself in the upper chest and shoulder area, police said.
The gun was a 308-caliber rifle, the same caliber that allegedly killed the victim the day prior, according to reports.
Lawrence Township Police have identified Boone’s victim as 40-year-old Rebecca Solt. Clearfield County Coroner Kim Shaffer-Snyder said Solt died from a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. The death has been ruled a homicide.
Solt had a PFA against Boone, who allegedly had threatened to kill her several times. Because of the PFA, Boone was prohibited from possessing a firearm. Police are investigating how and where he obtained the gun.
According to a GoFundMe page for Rebecca Solt, she is the mother of three children. The page states that she and Boone have a 5-year-old child together. Her other children, a 12-year-old and a 19-year-old, are from a previous marriage. Solt’s first husband died two years ago, the page states.
