LOCK HAVEN — When it comes to massages, there are several different kinds. And whether you are looking for a deep tissue massage, a traditional Swedish massage or a hot stone massage, a new business in town can fulfill your needs.

Bliss Massage, located at 757 Bellefonte Ave., recently opened its doors. Owner Liz Webb said that the first few weeks in business have been, well, busy.

“It’s been three weeks and it’s going well. The first two weeks were completely booked,” said Webb.

She has a great deal of experience in massage. In fact, she has been doing it for five years.

“I worked for a local chiropractor and then I moved to New York and worked in a spa there,” Webb said.

She moved back to Lock Haven and noticed there was a need for massage therapy in town.

“My goal was to open a massage therapy place. There definitely is a need around here. There are massage therapists, but most are booked. You can’t get in to anybody,” she said.

Prior to getting into massage therapy, Webb was a florist, owning and operating Bloomies on the Boulevard in Lock Haven.

“I owned that for 10 years before I got into massage,” Webb explained.

Now, her focus is massage. She went to school and earned her certification in massage.

“You have to be licensed, so I went to school in State College and got my Pennsylvania license. Then, when I moved to New York, I had to go back to school because you have to get more hours. So, I have my license in Pennsylvania and New York,” Webb said.

There are many different types of massage. From Swedish to deep tissue to sports to pre-natal, Webb can do all of them.

“Some people want deep tissue, some want therapeutic on certain areas. I tailor it to whatever the person wants,” Webb said. “For someone who has never had a massage, I would suggest a Swedish. People don’t know what kind of pressure they like, so I ask as I go. I work with people to figure out what they’re comfortable with.”

She enjoys all types of massage, she said.

“I can do more of a relaxing spa massage, but I can also do therapeutic,” Webb said.

She said that the location on Bellefonte Avenue is ideal.

“I think it is. I was lucky to find it. It has an upstairs. Eventually, I hope that I can hire another massage therapist,” Webb said.

At the present time, Bliss Massage is open Tuesday through Saturday. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, the hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Wednesday, it is open from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday’s hours are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bliss Massage is closed on Sundays.

Customers can book an hour massage or a half-hour, Webb said.

“Most people will book an hour massage, but if you have chronic pain … for example, neck or back pain or specific issues, I will do a half hour. A lot of people like that because you can do it more often. Then we can actually work on making the problem better,” Webb said. “You can come more often and focus on the areas that you need.”

Massages are available by appointment. Call (570) 748-5500 or book online at www.massagebook.com/biz/blissmassage1. You can also check out Bliss Massage on Facebook.
