DLH switches gears to winter season with Haven Holidays

LOCK HAVEN — With Halloween now in the rearview mirror and Thanksgiving mere weeks away, Downtown Lock Haven, Inc. is already gearing up for the holidays.
The non-profit is already prepping for its annual Haven Holidays celebration — coined Haven Holidays Harmonies this year — which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 26 in downtown Lock Haven.
The event will feature carriage rides, the annual parade, live reindeer and much more. It will serve as a kick off to Small Business Saturdays. SBS will run each Saturday from Nov. 26 to Dec. 17 and will see area businesses offer their own unique sales and specials.
“The holidays are just weeks away and Downtown Lock Haven, Inc. is already getting into the holiday spirit as it prepares for Haven Holidays Harmonies,” DLH Manager Kira Rosamilia said. “Make sure to mark your calendars and come downtown for great shopping and amazing events!”
Haven Holidays Harmonies will begin at about 10 a.m. on Nov. 26 as businesses begin to open their doors.
Once again, DLH will be giving away free “Shop Local” bags, designed by Freddie Wadsworth of Silver Shamrock Tattoo Co. Bags will be handed out on a first-come-first-serve basis at DLH’s office, 205 E. Main St. The office will also feature a large board with a list of participating businesses.
DJ Chet will be keeping things festive each Saturday, including Nov. 26 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
From 3 to 5:30 p.m., horse and carriage rides will be offered at the Lock Haven Post Office. The rides, sponsored by Geisinger, will take you up West Main Street onto North Third Street, making their way onto West Water Street. From there, the carriage will turn onto Mill Street before turning back onto West Main toward the Post Office.
The parade will take place at 6 p.m. Rosamilia noted that no parking will be permitted on Main Street to allow room for the parade. Floats will start at Henderson Street before making their way to Triangle Park.
Rosamilia said she has 11 floats signed up and is looking for more. You must sign up in advance of the parade and may do so by contacting Rosamilia at 570-748-1576 or by emailing Dlhmanager@lockhaven.org.
Following the parade, live reindeer will be in Sarah’s Alley next to Stella A’s from 7 to 9 p.m. Families can stop by and get pictures with the reindeer and meet the big man himself, Santa Claus.
Throughout the day, shoppers can test their Christmas music knowledge with DLH’s window decorating contest. So far, 24 businesses have signed up and chosen a Christmas tune, with plans to decorate their windows accordingly. However, they won’t be including the titles.
Interested shoppers will be able to visit www.lockhaven.org and guess the song for each store front. To be eligible to win a DLH digital gift certificate, participants must enter a guess for every participating business.
Windows will be ready by Nov. 26 and remain up throughout December. So far, 24 businesses in and around Main Street will take part in the contest.
The festive fun won’t end on Nov. 26. Along with specials and deals at local businesses during SBS, DLH has planned a variety of activities.
On Dec. 3, The Community Local Musicians Band will perform downtown from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. along with DJ Chet from noon to 1 p.m.
DLH will host a scavenger hunt with local history Lou Bernard. Particpants will have the chance to win digital gift certificates to local businesses.
On Dec. 9, Robb Elementary will hold its Christmas Concert in the East Main Street parking lot from 5 to 8 p.m.
On Tuesday, Dec. 13, Lock Haven Catholic School will carol up and down Main Street — stopping in local businesses to share their holiday tunes.
On Dec. 17, the final Small Business Saturday, DLH will pass out hot chocolate and candy canes.
In Canal Park, a wide variety of holiday blow ups will be available to view throughout December — including those provided by the Clinton County Community Foundation. Rosamilia said she’s still looking for more blow ups to feature. Those who’d like to donate a blow up can contact DLH’s office.
DLH is also holding a Pets in the Park banner program. Those who’d like to showcase their favorite furry friend can pay $60 to have them placed on a banner in Canal Park. The banners will remain in the park from Dec. 1 throughout the winter season.
Only 12 to 24 banners will be sold. Rosamilia said once they’re taken down, pet owners can keep the banner.
The Santa Hut is changing location this year! The big guy in red will set up shop at 125 E. Main St. — courtesy of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices and Hodrick Realty — beginning Dec. 2 through Dec. 17. Hours will be:
— Fridays, Dec. 2, 9 and 16 from 5 to 8 p.m.
— Saturdays, Dec. 3, 10 and 17 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Rosamilia said other activities are being considered. She encourages anyone who’d like to keep up-to-date with DLH activities follow the non-profit on social media — @downtownlockhaven — or visit www.lockhaven.org.
