BEECH CREEK — Despite the potential for rain, the Bitner Bechdel American Legion of Beech Creek’s annual Memorial Day Parade went off without a hitch.

The parade, which saw several area residents line the streets from Blanchard to Beech Creek, included a wide range of participants. This included seven different marching groups, roughly 15 floats, 20 fire trucks and five different organizations.

This year was a first for the legion as well, with its own members coming together to create its own Honor Guard as the rifle team in the parade.

The Beech Creek based Boy Scout troop also served as flag carriers for the event.

Legion representatives thanked everyone for participating in the parade and its other Memorial Day weekend activities.

“Especially the fire police for their dedication and quick response to helping us,” the statement said.

The parade served as the close out for a busy week in Beech Creek. The legion held a festival at the legion park from Friday through Sunday which featured vendors, a cake wheel, dunk tank, live music and more.

Proceeds from the festival benefited the Clinton/Centre Baseball Hall of Fame.
