Update provided on Wawa in BE Twp.
MILL HALL — The Bald Eagle Township Board of Supervisors have finally received an update on the much-anticipated Wawa convenience store.
In January of this year, the supervisors gave their conditional approval of the land development plans for the construction of the building. It will be where Creekside Restaurant — formerly Aungst Restaurant — was located just off of Eagle Valley Road, facing the intersection of North Water Street.
Since then, there have been sporadic updates as plans are finalized and put into place.
It was previously noted that a traffic impact study needed to be conducted, and PennDOT would give feedback based on what they saw in the study. The township was to be kept in the loop regarding the progress of that while PennDOT’s engineers studied the results.
Since then, the developer has been actively working on the project according to township solicitor Frank Miceli, who discussed having conversations with those involved during their June meeting.
The most recent substantial update was given in July when the board addressed rumors that had been circulating about the plans for Wawa being canceled. These rumors, of course, turned out to be false.
During this week’s meeting, Chairman Steve Tasselli noted they received word that the project was moving forward.
“(The project) met the PennDOT requirements, they’re continuing to proceed… Post haste, (it’s) remarkable. They’ve done a tremendous job,” said Tasselli.
“They’re approved to submit their Highway Occupancy Permit through the permitting system with PennDOT. All the items they’ve been asked to correct have been corrected,” Secretary/Treasurer Marissa Morgan said.
In a previous meeting, it was estimated that the Wawa would be in place within the next year.
