Fair to host first-ever nighttime horseshoe tournament
MACKEYVILLE — Grab your “shoes” and come help kick off the 2025 Clinton County Fair!
The Clinton County Fair Association will host its first annual nighttime horseshoe tournament, Saturday, July 26 — the first Saturday of Fair Week — at the Fairgrounds in Mackeyville.
The tournament — which is open to all ages and horseshoe pitching abilities — is sponsored by Bill’s Happy Camper RV Sales & Service of Mill Hall.
The walking doubles event is a double elimination tournament open to both 40-foot and 30-foot pitchers (participants are asked to bring their own horseshoes).
“Anyone can throw — the tournament isn’t sanctioned, it’s more for the fun of it,” says Bob Myers, who, along with Mike Considine, is organizing the tournament.
“We’re trying something different,” adds Myers. “Most people haven’t thrown at night under the lights; they do it during the day when it’s 100 degrees out.”
The tournament entry fee is only $10 per pitcher, with sign-ups starting at 7:30 p.m. at the horseshoe pit area of the fairgrounds. Horseshoes will fly beginning at 8 p.m.
First- and second-place prizes will be guaranteed, with additional prizes based on the number of entries.
For more information on the horseshoe tournament, call Myers at 570-660-0383 or Considine at 570-295-6881.
The 52nd Clinton County Fair runs July 26 through Aug. 2, with a wide variety of exhibits, competitions, food and daily entertainment. For more information on this year’s fair, visit www.ClintonCountyFairPA.com.
