BE Twp. considers increase in EMS donation for 2026
MILL HALL — At its monthly meeting this week, Bald Eagle Township Board of Supervisors addressed a request for an increase to its annual EMS donation, road projects for 2025-2026 and maintenance of Charlie Drive, among other items.
EMS fund request
Secretary Marissa Morgan brought to attention a funding request from Goodwill Hose Ambulance Company of Flemington to cover liability insurance and expenses, totaling $4,500 annually.
Currently, there is an established contract between the township and Goodwill, as well as Mill Hall Volunteer Fire Co., for an annual donation of $1,000.
“We established that donation almost 10 years ago and it hasn’t been changed, but all the costs have gone up since then,” Don Grant, a Goodwill spokesperson, said.
While ready to double the initial donation for Goodwill, Vice Chairman Kenneth McGhee raised the point of increasing donations for Mill Hall as well.
“What we do for one we should do for the other. We only have two services,” McGhee said.
Upon further discussion, a motion was made by Chair Steve Tasselli to increase the donation amount to $2,000 for the year for both companies, pending an additional request.
Road projects 2025-2026
One main road project that was up for discussion was the pipe replacement on Plunket Run Road.
Materials were purchased during previous meetings in hopes to lower the cost of the total project before putting out a bid for installation of the drainage pipe.
Currently, there are nine original pipes that need to be replaced, with the addition of four pipes along Plunket Run.
The board held off on putting out a bid, claiming the project can be completed in-house, but may take longer with unexpected breaks.
“We have two guys, and again, they get busy, they get called out on sewers,” said Tasselli.
A major concern brought up by community members was the change in season that will be coming up, pushing completion back if it’s not started in a timely manner.
“Get a bid out,” community member, Gerard, said. “Weather’s going to change on you, snow’s going to start flying. Get a price on it because you don’t know what it’s going to compare to.”
Tasselli motioned to reach out to different companies for bids to move the project forward while McGhee was the only one to oppose.
Charlie Drive
Residents that live along Charlie Drive in Mill Hall spoke up during the new business agenda item to ask the township to take over maintenance along the road.
Those that live along the road are hoping to learn more about the owner of the road and whose responsibility it becomes regarding maintenance.
On top of maintenance, it seems that the community is unsure about township involvement in adding sewer lines through the properties that began several decades back.
Before the township can vote on adding this route for maintenance, there needs to be more information on whether this is considered a private road or not.
“Ordinarily the township takes the position that they don’t take over private roads,” said township Solicitor Frank Miceli.
Miceli will be doing more research into the land ownership deeds to help resolve any issues.
