Berry appointed MH council president

Caris retains VP position

MILL HALL — During its reorganization meeting this week, Mill Hall Borough Council appointed member Derek Berry as its president.

On Monday night, the borough’s newly elected mayor, Tom Evers, opened its reorganization meeting with presidential nominations.

The position was previously held by Council Member Anthony Walker.

Council Member Karen Houser nominated Walker and Michelle Kunes nominated Berry.

With no other nominations, Evers called for a roll call vote. Ultimately, Berry was awarded the appointment in a 4-3 vote, with Derek Caris, Kunes, Berry and Evers voting in favor of Berry and Walker, Houser and Rick Hetzel voting for Walker.

Evers continued on the meeting with nominations for vice president, Kunes nominated Derek Caris, who served in the role in 2025.

No other nominations were made and Caris retained his position.

Following reorganization, council held a regular meeting to discuss matters, including filling a vacancy opened by Council Member Rick Hetzel’s resignation.

Council received two letters of interest from community members.

Of those two letters, applicant Michael Renninger was awarded the appointment to complete the remainder of Hetzel’s term, which will be two years, following discussion.

Appointments for the 2026 committee chairs were approved for the following:

— Sewer/Highway: Caris

— Ordinance: Evers

— Park and Rec: Berry

— Personnel: Walker

Positions were filled based on the chairs from 2025. At this time, council tabled further discussion on committee vice chairs.

Liaisons were appointed for the following:

— Planning Commission: Ken Grieb, Tom Johnson, Derek Berry, Elisabeth Lynch, Harry Ripey, John Toot, two-year term.

— Central Clinton County Water Filtration Authority: Vincent Shay, two-year term.

— Water Authority: Vincent Shay, Tom Walker Jr., two-year term.

— Zoning Hearing Board: Elizabeth Cruse, Miles Kessinger, Thomas Johnson, two-year term.

— COG: Michelle Kunes, Karen Houser, alternate, two-year term.

— Sewage Enforcement Officers: Jeff Kreger, Eric Williamson, alternate, two-year term.

— Keystone Tax Committee Representative: Karen Houser, Vincent Shay, alternate, two-year term.

— Zoning Hearing Board Solicitor: Frank Miceli, two-year term.
