RENOVO — Renovo Borough residents had a chance to get the first look at their new council as elected officials met Monday evening for its annual reorganizational meeting.
It’s the largest change the borough has seen in decades, as longtime members Ann Tarantella, who served many years as council president, Rhonda Balchun and Pattie Rauch did not seek re-elections.
Additionally Mayor Justin Lynn won on the ballot over Gene Bruno in November.
Newly elected members attending their first meeting were Lynn, Corey Aungst and Dave Walker. Also new to council is Tracy Bruno, who was not present.
They are joining the borough’s previously elected officials, serving alongside John Simon, Kristy Serafini-Brooks and Dave Knauff.
There will be one more change that will be addressed at next week’s regularly scheduled monthly meeting, as the members will have to address an already vacant seat.
Incumbent Mike Kelley had enough votes to retain his seat in November, but his work status prevented him from seeking an elected position, therefore council will need to fill that seat.
Officials expect this to take place next Wednesday.
Council unanimously voted Simon as president and Knauff as vice president.
Mary “Midge” Kramer was welcomed by the borough last year as the new secretary/treasurer and council agreed to do so again entering the new year.
The move came after Marsha Davis stepped down from the position, moving into an assistant role in 2025, which will continue in 2026.
Davis’s experience was of great importance to some of the inexperienced members Monday and helped to guide them flawlessly through the reorganization.
Committees will be appointed at next Wednesday’s meeting, but other appointments from Monday include: Serafini-Brooks appointed to president pro tem: Pattie Rauch appointed to Vacancy Board Chair; Stuart Hall appointed as borough solicitor; First Commonwealth Bank appointed as the bank depositary.
