Hanover Bald Eagles lay first egg in nesting season

HANOVER — The famous Hanover Bald Eagles are back in action for another nesting season. In partnership with the Pennsylvania Game Commission and HDOnTap, viewers can experience the beauty of wildlife directly from their screens through the live Hanover Eagle Cam.

The past few seasons have been hectic for this nest. As bald eagle populations continue to grow, competition for nesting areas has increased, creating challenges for established nests.

This season, watchers believe a new pair of eagles has taken over the nest. Members of the Hanover PA Eagle Cam Facebook community have identified the pair as “Hope” and “Peace.”

The first egg of the 2026 season was laid on March 2 at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Observers believe the pair may be relatively new to nesting. Viewers have noticed the male has not been consistently attentive to the egg. While he clearly recognizes the egg’s importance and has been guarding the nest, he has not yet been seen mantling or fully incubating the egg.

A second egg could arrive as early as tomorrow, which would be typical for bald eagles, as eggs are often laid about 2-3 days apart.

For now, inconsistent incubation is not unusual. However, once both eggs are laid, incubation typically becomes more consistent. As a new nesting pair, the male will likely learn his role naturally as the season progresses.

The Hanover Bald Eagle nest can be viewed live through the Hanover PA Eagle Cam on HDOnTap.com, or by joining the Hanover PA Eagle Cam Facebook group, where viewers share observations and updates throughout the season.

Starting at $3.69/week.
