Red Cross declares emergency blood shortage

LOCK HAVEN — The American Red Cross has declared an emergency blood shortage as the number of donations this summer has been too low to sustain its blood supply. According to a release from the Red Cross, its blood supply fell nearly 25 percent in June. Blood donors are urgently needed to give now to help ensure patients receive lifesaving medical care without delay, the release said. LOCK HAVEN — While the heat and humidity still isn’t as bad as the previous heat wave, it is enough for the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory, effective today from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. As of Monday afternoon, forecasters were also advising that extending the advisory into Wednesday may be necessary.
