Over $8K stolen from SV Fire Co.

LOGANTON — Over $8,000 was stolen from the Sugar Valley Volunteer Fire Company, according to state police at Lamar.

$8,880 was taken from the fire company’s bank account when an unknown suspect obtained its information with Northwest Bank, police said.

The information was taken between March 23 and March 28, with the suspect creating fraudulent checks to steal the money, police said.

According to a release from the fire company, the suspect may have been out-of-state.

“It is an ongoing investigation, but we will say that according to the bank it appears out of state individuals were the perpetrators,” the release said. “It also appears several local businesses were similarly targeted and it was not one particular financial institution.”

The release noted that the bank and PSP were “very helpful and the funds have been replaced.”

“We have several in-house procedures in place to protect our money, but this attack came from the outside. We, as well as our supporters and community, work very hard for the funds that ensure your protection and needs are met,” the release concluded.

Starting at $3.69/week.
