‘Beech Creek Bandit’ apprehended after car break-ins

BEECH CREEK — A Clinton County woman nicknamed the “Beech Creek Bandit” was arrested again after allegedly stealing from several vehicles last week.

Tasha S. Bryan, 53, of Mill Hall, was taken into custody after police say she was caught on surveillance footage rummaging through cars parked on the 500 block of Long Run Road in the early morning hours of Oct. 13.

Bryan was dubbed the “Beech Creek Bandit” by members of the public and Clinton County District Attorney David A. Strouse following a string of similar thefts in 2020.

Bryan is accused of stealing several hundred dollars’ worth of items, including wallets containing about $600 in cash, credit cards, rain jackets and loose change from two unlocked vehicles.

The suspect was identified after the property owner provided security footage to police the following morning upon noticing several items were missing from her vehicle.

Surveillance video showed a woman rummaging through the victim’s 2020 Subaru and her son’s 2019 Jeep around 2:15 a.m. The woman, later identified as Bryan, was allegedly seen carrying off a bag she did not have before entering the property.

Police corroborated the suspect’s identity with footage from the Lamar Township Fire Company, where she was also captured on camera. An officer familiar with Bryan was able to identify her as the suspect in the footage.

A PSP Lamar trooper said she spoke with Bryan shortly after the alleged burglary, following a report from her live-in boyfriend that she was missing. Bryan allegedly told that officer she had walked past the fire hall.

On Oct. 14, the victim learned the suspect was Bryan and went to her residence to retrieve her stolen property. Bryan allegedly began throwing the items at the victim, who said she recorded the incident.

Bryan allegedly admitted to having a gambling problem and said she used the stolen money for that purpose.

Police charged her with two felony counts of theft from a motor vehicle and one misdemeanor count of loitering and prowling at nighttime. She is free on $50,000 bail.

Starting at $3.69/week.
