Two dead in weekend Spring Township house fire
BELLEFONTE –Two people were pronounced dead at the scene of a Saturday morning house fire in Spring Township, the Centre County coroner said Sunday.
According to the Spring Township Police Department, emergency responders were dispatched around 9:15 a.m. to the 100 block of Mulbarger Lane in Spring Township for a reported building fire. Upon arrival, police said they learned the homeowners were still inside the residence.
After the fire was brought under control by multiple area fire departments, a search of the residence was initiated by the authorities. Centre County Coroner Scott A. Sayers, who was dispatched to the scene shortly after noon, said two victims were located inside the home and pronounced dead.
One victim, an adult female, has undergone an autopsy, and the cause of death was determined to be smoke inhalation. The second victim, an adult male, is scheduled to undergo an autopsy on Monday, March 30, 2026, Sayers said.
The identities of the victims are being withheld pending positive identification through DNA analysis, which is expected to take several weeks.
An investigation into the fire will be conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal and the Centre County Coroner’s Office.
