Holiday Open House HOWARD — St. Mark Lutheran, 850 Snydertown Road, Howard, will bring back its Holiday Open House event on Dec. 6. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes an appearance by, and photo opportunities with, Santa and Mrs. Claus! The open house features craft vendors who will be selling items that would make Christmas gifts or to keep for yourself. The forgotten figures in the nativity story

As we approach Christmas I want you to think about nativity scenes. Typically they seem to include everything from Joseph, Mary and the baby Jesus to the shepherds, wise men and the assorted animals. I used to be a nativity scene snob, insisting that the wise men (magi) didn’t belong in them since it’s quite clear from Matthew’s gospel that they didn’t arrive until somewhere around two years after Jesus’ birth.
