Boyd “Perry” Smith
Boyd “Perry” Smith
Boyd “Perry” Smith, 80, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024, at the Gatehouse, while surrounded by his loving family.
Born Aug. 31, 1944, in Lock Haven, Perry was a son of the late Richard H. and Iva Celestine (Young) Smith.
He graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1963 and shortly after began a long and successful career with Thompson’s Packaging Company. Perry worked diligently for 39 years as a meat processor before his retirement in 2004.
After retirement, Perry began doing more of the things he enjoyed. He was an avid hunter and a member of the Big Hayes Hunting Club. He enjoyed traveling, especially to beaches. He liked to tell of his adventures in Guatemala and Canada, and always made people laugh with his dad jokes. He was a huge Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan and could often be found tinkering and building things in his garage.
Above all hobbies and interests, Perry’s time on earth was most enjoyed serving his Lord and treasuring his family. He was a member of Calvary Church of the Nazarene, where he worshipped God for over 30 years. Being elected every year to the building and grounds maintenance committee for his church brought Perry great joy.
Throughout his illness and in his last days on earth, he fought hard to remain present for his family, not wanting to miss a moment with them.
Surviving are his wife, Rev. Teresa L. Bennett-Smith; two sons, Steven A. Smith and Benjamin B. McGinty-Smith (George); a daughter, Wendy M. Smith (Kevin); four grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael), Kaydan, Haley and Brock; and a great-grandchild, Jahseh.
He also leaves behind to cherish his memory a brother, Richard L. Smith; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Willis and Marilyn Bennett; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services to honor the life of Perry will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2024, at Calvary Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow at Jersey Shore Cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The family encourages everyone who attends to wear “happy socks” in remembrance of Perry.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 3200 Lycoming Creek Road, Williamsport, PA 17701.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Knight-Confer Funeral Home.
