P. ‘Jean’ Walizer

P. “Jean” Walizer, 93, of Bellefonte, passed away peacefully at her niece’s home on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025.

Born on April 11, 1932, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Helen (Lyons) Cowher.

In October 1965, Jean married the love of her life, Harry Walizer, with whom she shared many happy years until his passing on July 6, 2007.

A proud 1950 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School, Jean worked briefly at Sylvania in Mill Hall before beginning a long and dedicated career in the Payroll and Billing Department at Claster Building Supply. She retired after 37 years of loyal service.

Jean was a faithful member of the Greater Buffalo Run Valley United Methodist Church.

Jean had a zest for life and a wide array of interests. She enjoyed visits to Hollywood Casino, tackling crossword puzzles and especially traveling. She loved going on cruises and cherished every voyage. Fishing trips with Harry, particularly to the Poconos and Smith Lake in Virginia, were among her favorite pastimes.

Known for her spirited personality, Jean was never shy about sharing her thoughts — particularly when it came to politics. She welcomed conversation, always ready to hear your view and share hers in return.

Though Jean and Harry were not blessed with children of their own, Jean cherished the many family gatherings over the years with her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by eight siblings — brothers, Joseph, William and George Cowher; and sisters, Lucy Peters, Catherine Bryan, June Confer, Donna Schlegel and Helen Confer. She was the last surviving member of her generation.

Jean will be laid to rest privately beside her beloved Harry at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Mill Hall, with Pastor James Jacobs officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Buffalo Run Valley United Methodist Church, 102 Trinity Court, Bellefonte, PA 16823.

Arrangements are under the care of Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc. in Milesburg, Pa.
