Gladys Ellen Steiger

Gladys Ellen Steiger, 86, of Avis, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, at home surrounded by her loved ones.

Born on Oct. 19, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Devester and Catharine (Adams) Heverly.

Gladys was a graduate of Lock Haven High School.

On March 17, 1962 she married the late David Steiger, who passed away on Oct. 3, 2021.

Gladys’s first job was at Allegheny Creamery. She spent most of her life working at Woolrich before her retirement.

She enjoyed going out to eat with family, spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids, attending sports games, weekly Bingo and monthly breakfasts with her classmates at Restless Oaks.

She also enjoyed her yearly trip to the casino with her husband before his passing.

She is survived by her four children, Douglas (Michelle) Steiger, Cathy (Greg) Marr, Gayle (Kevin) Jameson and Jen (Tim) Crawford; a sister Grace Hevner; a brother Gary (Sylvia) Heverly; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harry Heverly; two sisters, Delores Mayes and Diane Miller; and a granddaughter, Angel.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Donald Walker Funeral Home, 231 High St., Flemington.

In lieu of flowers, donate to your favorite charity in Gladys’s name. The family will be providing flowers for the viewing.
