Carl ‘Neil’ Scharder
Carl ‘Neil’ Scharder
Carl “Neil” Scharder, 83, of Lock Haven, passed away peacefully surrounded by his daughters and grandchildren on March 6, 2026, in Vero Beach, Fla.
Neil was born on May 17, 1942, in Norristown, Pa. to Carl and Agnes Scharder. He attended East Norton High School and went on to build a life centered around hard work, family and the outdoors.
For 50 years, Neil proudly owned and operated Neil Scharder Logging. Logging was not just his livelihood, it was his passion. He built lasting relationships throughout his career, treated his employees like family and always looked out for the people who worked beside him. Neil had a deep love for the outdoors.
Some of his favorite memories were made elk hunting in Wyoming and New Mexico. He enjoyed spending time on the Scharder farm in Caldwell, riding his Ranger and watching the wildlife that surrounded him. Those quiet moments in nature were some of the ones he treasured the most.
He also loved spending time at home in Vero Beach, Fla., and never passed up a good poker game with his cousins. More than anything, Neil loved being surrounded by family and friends, sharing stories, laughter and the simple moments that mean the most.
Neil is survived by his daughters, Cindy Scharder of Lock Haven, Brenda (Chris) Probst of Woolrich and Lori (Jason) Thompson of Cogan Station.
He was a proud grandfather to Blake (Devin) Marsh of Avis, Haley (Josh) Corbett of Mill Hall, Michael (Lauren) Probst of Bellefonte, Sabrina (Frankie) Thompson of Oval, Matthew Probst of Woolrich and Alexis (Joe) Thompson of Jersey Shore.
He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Stella Hilty, Lux Corbett, Reid Hilty and Leila “Joycie” Robinson, who brought him great joy.
Neil was preceded in death by his beloved wife Karen Ammon Scharder.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Scharder Farm in Caldwell on May 16, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please share a story and a beverage for the family. The dress code is casual.
Neil will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of the outdoors, his generosity towards others and the deep love he had for his family.
