Durty Dabber Cycle Races

Carol McDermit

Queens Run

On June 1 and June 2, the Peoples United Methodist Church of Farrandsville hosted the Durty Dabbers at the Castanea picnic grounds for breakfast both days. There were well over 600 riders and their families from across the U.S.

We then hosted the Durty Dabbers on June 16 in Farrandsville on a smaller scale of 50 riders and we served breakfast and dinner all day. As said many times before, this group of men and women are so kind, respectable, generous and very thankful. This event helps support our church every year.

Thank you to Lisa Bolopue and Lana Sachetti who help us out every year and for their donations. It is very much appreciated.

The following businesses helped with a donation of gift cards to offset the cost of food for both events: Giant in Williamsport, Weis in Mill Hall and Lock Haven, Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club.

We also wish to thank Love’s Disposal for their generous donation and also to Stroehmann’s Bakery for the order and delivery by driver JJ who met us each time for pickup. Thanks to Greg and Terry for taking our orders.

A special thank you to the women and men who helped us on June 1 and June 2, Vickie Hibbler, Randy McDermit, Joy Baney, Paisleigh Beardslee, Marvel and Jim Myers and Ruth and Jack Hocker. It was very tiring, but we had fun.

I would like to thank everyone who helped at the event on June 16.

Thank you to Diane Smith for making her famous peanut butter fudge. Thanks to Shirley Guthrie for her cake, and thank you to Sally Bair, Myla Magent and Lisa Smith for baking all kinds of cookies, brownies, etc. for both events.

Thank you to Mary Ann Baney for making chicken corn soup and to Shannen Baney for his donation of chips and pretzels. A special thank you goes to Rebecca Cline for her monetary gift which was used to purchase soda.

And now to thank the people who without them this event would not be possible. These people not only helped by making food, donating money and working the events tirelessly: Our grillers and fry guys, Randy McDermit, Andy McDermit, Truman Hibbler, Terry Crawford, Jim Dershem, Jack Hocker and Eric Coleman; Paisleigh Beardslee who was our cashier on June 1; and Nancy Dershem who kindly helped us on June 16 to take the money. As always, she is spot on with the count.

Thank you to those who helped buy groceries, set up the township building, cooked and served: Bob Barton, Jim Myers, Tristan McDermit, Betty Barton, Robin Davis, Marvel Myers, Joy Baney, Ruth Hocker, and the person who keeps me straight with her organizational skills, Vickie Hibbler.

Also, a huge thank you to Pauline Simcox for allowing the church to use the township building and opening and closing it throughout the week.

There are not enough words to thank all the people involved in these two events.

We look forward to serving the Durty Dabbers next year on May 31 and June 1 in Castanea.

Starting at $3.69/week.
