Outdoor Static Airplane display at Piper Museum

Mellanie ‘Mel’ Boone

Mill Hall

I am so happy to see the outdoor static display of (I think) a Piper Seneca up on a three pole standard. It greets people coming into the museum.

I mentioned in a Letter to the Editor last year, I thought it would be a great idea… whether they got the idea from me or someone else, it is a wonderful addition to the Piper Air Museum.

I hope they put more of the different Piper planes built on stantions throughout the parking lot, and maybe in that grass yard to the east of what used to be the engineering building.

It would be nice if the city, or whoever is in charge of the floating docks, would find another place for them, as well as the white utility trucks that are placed down there. It would create a more appealing view of the Piper Air Museum, as well as the government building.

I don’t know if anybody noticed the airplane that is out there, but it is a really nice addition to not only the museum, but to the airport itself. I think the city is misunderstanding the potential for this airport.

We need to cater to those who like and love to fly!

People come here from all over the world for the Fly-In — a fine group of human beings!

Some might wish to come here to live, and do business with businesses already here or might want to locate their business here.

I also think maybe a little restaurant in the Piper Museum building open to the public and pilots, where they can sit and overlook the airport and watch planes fly in and out, would be great!

The Sentimental Journey Fly-in is coming up June 18 through June 23. I hope the community really goes out of their way to promote and to go see and meet the pilots that come into our fine little airport.

Before ending this, I have lived here for more than 60 years. I grew up when Lock Haven was a thriving town that Piper pretty much put on the map.

I know a bunch of the pilots who have contributed their lives in support of Piper Airport, and to this day still do: Carl Williamson, Frank Swinehart, Lee Gilbert, Cal Arter, Clyde Smith, Nils Mantzoros, the late John Bryerton, my dad, the late Paul Everly, Mr. Larson and a whole lot more. I just want to thank all of you past and present for all you have done and continue to do for the airport and community!

This airport needs to keep on going! I hope more of our community gets involved with this airport.

Piper Museum, you hit the ball out of the ballpark with your static airplane display!

Thank you! Keep on going!
