Republicans have lost their way

Scrutiny over Biden’s viability as a Presidential candidate starkly illustrates the differences between the two major political parties. Only Democrats prioritize the health of our country over narrow self-interests of one person.

A democracy is about discussion and debate — comparing different positions and evaluating them in light of evidence. The Democratic Party is doing precisely that — discussing whether Biden is best positioned to win and carry on the traditions that make our country great — individual rights, defense of democracy here and abroad, economic prosperity for all.

In contrast, the Republican Party has abandoned its guiding principles in fealty to a man who cares only about himself.

The party that once defended democracy around the world caves to a man who threatens to pull out of NATO and allow Putin to steal another sovereign nation.

The party founded on the abolition of slavery is now committed to white Christian nationalism.

The party that appointed the first woman to the Supreme Court now wants to deny a woman control over her own body and once again make women subservient to men.

The party that once championed a balanced budget will now recklessly balloon the deficit by delivering more tax cuts to corporations and the ultra-rich.

Donald Trump says one thing one day, and walks it back the next if he thinks it imperils his election. His cowardly minions fall in line.

Don’t be fooled. To quote the New York Times, Trump is “dangerous in word, deed and action.”
