For consideration…

This letter is being copied to the Lamar Township Supervisors to consider reevaluation of the rules for racing times at the Clinton County Speedway. I understand the current rules are that the last race needs to start by 11 p.m. and engines off, including haulers, by 11:30 p.m. That “ain’t happenin.”

The Saturday, Aug. 10, race, I am guessing, was allowed to be rescheduled because of rain, for the normally Friday night race. That race ended closer to midnight and the haulers fired up after that. Race ending and hauling seems to be ending later than the agreed to rules.

I believe there are many factory workers that would appreciate a little more sleep time if the racing ended at 10 p.m., versus the 11 p.m. end time, before their 11 or 12 p.m. shift starts. I am also told by neighbors these weekly races affect many pets and farm animals by the various rates of loud acceleration for approximately five hours per night, much like fireworks do.

Some will say I just do not like racing and want to stop it. To the contrary, I supported various Clinton County racers over the years. I also see with top prize money of $6,300 for the winner, there is incentive for the race track operators to bend the rules for their benefit.

As stated above, I am sending this letter to the Lamar Township Supervisors to consider reevaluating the race track rules and consider changing the end time to 10 p.m. starting next year. This change would conform to most communities’ noise ordinances, campground and hotel rules of “quiet time” after 10 p.m. for residents to get their desired sleep and less anxiety for animals. I encourage residents of the township to attend the Sept. 3 meeting to voice your position for supervisor consideration.

Starting at $3.69/week.
