Voting with integrity

Election time again! Ads in newspapers, television, radio, mail and posters. We are inundated with them. But the sad part is that some candidates resort to lies, hatred, using division, etc. to get your vote. That’s all that counts. After that, they don’t care. At the same time, there are candidates that do tell the truth; that have accomplishments they can point to and really love our country. How can we know who is really telling the truth and can be counted on to do what is right?
First, ask yourself why someone would lie to you? Do they respect you? Are they hiding something? Can you ever trust them? And before going any further, this is not directed at any one party — both parties have people that manipulate the people with their lies.
When politicians are making their bid for your vote, check to see what they have accomplished that was good. What have they supported and who do they support on that issue? If they have changed their position, it might be because they want the vote and will revert back to their original position if elected. So much for respecting you when going after your vote.
Have they promoted law and order or do they make their own rules and disregard the laws and the Constitution of the USA?
Do they want to unify the country or divide us? So far they have been dividing us by race, religion, party, gender and the list goes on.
They say a leopard never changes its spots. Well, in our area there were two rattlesnake roundups and we can learn a lesson from them. A rattlesnake sheds its skin and rattles but it is still a rattlesnake and very deadly! Bad politicians are the same as that rattlesnake. They might have done a bad job while in office and now say they are changing. Hold them accountable. Support candidates in your party that are sincere about making our country a good place to live and work.
Too many times we have been neglected by our parties and bad candidates have been elected because we were gullible and believed their lies or they were successful in creating a hatred for an issue or a person.
Let’s take our citizenship seriously and let the politicians know that they have a responsibility to improve our country, to keep us safe, to leave a legacy for our children.
