James Clifton Lock Haven The recent LTE “Cuts will impact Medicaid/SNAP recipients and Veterans in Clinton County” contains an outright lie (or misprint/mistake): “Clinton County has the largest number of veterans of any county in Pennsylvania.” A two minute search engine check reveals Clinton County has 2,665 veterans, while Allegheny County has 65,677. (Source: www.va.gov/vetdata/Veteran_Population.asp) Even by percentage of population, Clinton County is nowhere near being the largest. Jim Newton Itasca Cat Ballou, the 1965 comedy-western starring Jane Fonda and Lee Marvin has a quote that could be seen as a commentary on our current events obsession. “Cat,” played by Fonda, hires a drunk gunslinger, “Kid Shelleen” (Marvin) to avenge her father’s death. Shonah Hunter Mill Hall Veterans served our country and we need to serve them by assuring that the benefits they have earned continue to be available. Recently, 2,400 federal VA staff were fired, and on March 4, a leaked internal VA email stated that an additional 80,000+ VA federal employees will be eliminated in the coming months (APNews.com). Clinton County ranks number one in all 67 Pennsylvania counties for the percentage of VA claims filed and processed. We wanted to express our concerns about the House’s proposed budget, a resolution that directs massive cuts in social service budgets to fund a tax cut for the wealthiest Americans. The House Energy and Commerce Committee is being asked to make $880 billion in budget cuts over the next ten years to many programs under the committee’s jurisdiction, one of which is Medicaid — a health care program overseen by the ...

To accelerate this awareness and vote their Republican legislators out of office, we must write and disseminate the stories of how constituent’s lives will be destroyed without their federal safety net: Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), food stamps, public housing, K-12 public school subsidies, support for veterans, possibly even Medicare and Social Security.
