Local roundup: CM tennis defeats Mifflinburg

The Central Mountain girls tennis team picked up its first victory of the season Tuesday after it managed to defeat Mifflinburg, 5-0, at home.

The Wildcats went 4-0 in matches and picked up the forfeit win in No. 2 doubles.

In singles action, Kati Kwiatek defeated Destiny Jones in two sets, 6-0, 6-0. Claire Long earned the 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kassidy Reedy in No. 2 singles. Zeta Blesh downed Kooper Haines 6-2, 6-0 in No. 3 singles.

In No. 1 doubles, The pairing of Ana Persun and Catie Lugg won 6-2, 6-1. CM is back in action today at Williamsport as it tries to get to .500 on the season.

•The Central Mountain golf team defeated Shamokin by a count of 261-294 Wednesday at the Clinton County Country Club. Griff Walizer’s 38 led CM as Gunner Redmond (40), Gardy Fravel (45) and Peyton Newlen (46) followed for official scorers. Brayden Blackwell (45) and Evan Walker (47) were alternates for the Wildcats.

• Jersey Shore tennis defeated Shikellamy, 5-0, Tuesday. Peyton Dincher, Celia Shemory and Haley Shadle all won in individual events. In doubles, Rahel Hartman/ Breanna Porter won in No. 1s and Ella Gerst/ Madelyn Gerst won in No. 2s. The Bulldogs are now 3-1 and are back in action tomorrow at Wellsboro.

• The Lock Haven University department of athletics has announced its spectator policy for the fall 2021 season.For outdoor venues, face coverings are not required, but LHU encourages social distancing.In conjunction with full and current LHU policy, face coverings are required indoors on campus. On August 13, LHU instituted an updated indoor masking mandate for the entire campus which included all athletic facilities.The updated campus policy requires all students, staff, coaches, officials and spectators to wear proper face coverings indoors. The practice will stand regardless of a person’s vaccination. status.

Athletes will not be required to wear masks during competition.
