Local roundup: Reese Walizer of CM finishes third at district golf

Central Mountain’s golf team finished as HAC co-champions. Gardy Fravel, a senior, finished seventh at the District 6 golf championships in boys competition while sophomore Reese Walizer finished third in the girls competition.
Walizer shot a 90 for third place. She was behind only Hollidaysburg’s Crosb Denis (79) and State College’s Hannah Kopac (89).
Fravel trailed State College’s Max Wager (73), Hollidaysburg’s Isaac Miller (76),State College’s Luke McGraw (76), State College’s Brady Wager (78), Hollidaysburg’s Keagan Hockey (81) and State College’s AJ Corson (82)
• Central Mountain’s Grace Keohane took 25th by running a 21:20.30 and was the Wildcats’ highest-placing finisher at Saturday’s NEPA Invitational in cross country at Bloomsburg University.
• In girls soccer, Sammy Roarty scored three goals, Mackenzie Lopez had two goals and an assist and Addison Wenzel had a goal and two assists as Milton blanked Central Mountain, 6-0.
The Black Panthers scored three goals in each half. Madison Hardy of Central Mountain ended the game with 15 saves.
Cassi Mitchell scored two goals, both coming of direct kicks, as Wellsboro defeated Jersey Shore, 2-0. The Green Hornets held an 11-5 shots on goal edge. Bryanna Witt recorded nine saves for the Bulldogs.
• The Lock Haven men’s soccer team struck first in a road PSAC Eastern Division contest at West Chester University, but the Golden Rams scored three unanswered goals to steal a 3-1 victory.
The contest started as a defensive battle, as neither squad could find the back of the net through the opening 41 minutes.
Jimmy Pombor scored his first goal of the season in the 42nd minute to give The Haven a 1-0 lead. However, the Golden Rams struck for the equalizer just 20 seconds later to make it 1-1 entering the break.
• In women’s soccer, Lock Haven battled Shepherd University to a 1-1 tie in a PSAC Eastern Division match. Lock Haven (1-6-1, 1-5-1 PSAC East) broke a scoreless tie in the 26th minute when Janessa Swartz found the back of the net off a helper from Jocelynne Kuhns to give the Bald Eagles a 1-0 advantage.
However, the Rams connected on the equalizer in the 50th minute to knot the score at 1-1 with 40 minutes to go. Despite the length of time remaining, both defenses had the last laugh, as neither squad could break the tie.
• In women’s volleyball, Lock Haven fell to Shepherd, 3-2 (20-25, 25-20, 25-22, 20-25, 11-15) in a road PSAC Eastern Division match. The Bald Eagles dug an early hole after dropping the first set 25-20 to the Rams. However, The Bald Eagles rallied in the ensuing two sets to win 25-20 and 25-22, respectively.
However, the Rams answered to steal the final two sets, 25-20 and 15-11 to win the match. The Bald Eagles put up an excellent fight, as they finished with a match-high 55 kills, 10 aces, 51 assists, and 76 digs.
Shepherd’s defense finished with 16 blocks to help stop Lock Haven’s offense from rallying from behind.
• Lock Haven defeated Scranton on the road, 5-4, in women’s tennis. In No. 1 doubles Mia Shuler, a Williamsport graduate, and Olivia Anastos, a Central Mountain graduate, came away with the victory over the Royals’ Kyleigh McNulty and Brigid O’Mara, 8-2.
The Bald Eagles continued their season dominance in singles matches, winning four of six singles matches.
At No. 1 singles, Shuler pulled out another victory as she defeated Daniella Wisniewski 6-4, 4-6, with a super breaker score of 10-5, keeping Shuler undefeated at 3-0 for the season.
Bellefonte boys soccer slid past Westmont Hilltop on Saturday afternoon, 4-3. Andy Gerasenko scored two goals while Brady Wertz and Andy Wertz scored one apiece. Bellefonte dictated a lot of the offensive pace, totaling 20 shots to Westmont’s five.
“We came out fast and for the most part dominated the game. We have been working on some stuff offensively and the boys did a great job with possession of the ball and getting good shots on goal,” Bellefonte coach Scott Martz said.
“We had quiet a few 1-on-1 chances and just didn’t finish them. Give credit to westmont goal keeper he played out of his mind.”
COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY
Lock Haven fell to Rider on the road on Sunday afternoon, 2-0, in non-conference action. Rider scored in the third and fourth quarters after a scoreless first half to take a commanding lead that led to the victory.
Anna May Barbusca finished with two shots and goalkeeper Kelsey Felix finished with eight saves but that’s all The Haven could muster.
Rider held an 11-9 advantage in corners.
