Local roundup: Jersey Shore track and field competes vs. Milton
Jersey Shore’s Anna Sick was a three-event winner on Tuesday, claiming victories in the 100 (13.44), 200 (27.24) and ran a 1:05.39 to win the 400, but Jersey Shore’s girls track and field team came up shy against Milton in a dual meet, 90-60.
The Bulldogs’ Birtukan Hartman ran a 6:08.38 to win the 1,600 and also claimed a victory in the 3,200 with a time of 13:09.77. She also was a member of Shore’s 3,200 relay team which won with a time of 11:10.12 alongside Olivia Miller, Lucy Engel and Gianna Martino.
Nina Steppe won the shot put for the Bulldogs by throwing a distance of 34 feet, 0 3/4 inches. Jersey Shore’s Alison Bilbay also earned a win, doing so with a throw of 89-9 in the discus.
Milton standout Mackenzie Lopez ran a 16.72 to win the 100 hurdles race and then ran a 47.81 to win the 300 hurdles. Camron Roush of Milton won the long jump with a distance of 15-2 1/2. Lopez won the javelin by throwing a distance of 129-7.
Milton’s boys track and field team defeated Jersey Shore, 101-49. Jersey Shore finished 1-2 in the 400 as Zack Kendall won with a time of 52.47 followed by Ashton Sweeley’s 54.83 in second. A two-time winner for the Bulldogs was Daniel Marshall. The Bulldog ran a 16.50 towin the 110 hurdles by two seconds and ran a 43.72 for a two-second victory over Jake Harris of Milton in the 300 hurdles.
The Bulldogs’ Peyton Whitman, Marshall, Kendall and Sweeley won the 1,600 relay with a time of 3:37.27.
Milton’s Tavin Reitz, Aaron Treibley, Chance Benshoff and Adam Kerstetter won the 3,200 relay race in 9:54.65.
Charles Wright of Milton ran an 11.65 towin the 100 and also claimed a win in the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 10 inches. The Blac Panthers’ Kade Ficks won the pole vault competition by reaching a height of 12-0. Wright won the long and triple jumps as well with distances of 20-9 1/2 and 42-0 1/2, respectively. The Black Panthers’ Connor Snyder threw 181-4 to win the javelin.
• The Lock Haven women’s tennis team fell in a PSAC Eastern Division match, 7-0, to Bloomsburg. The Bald Eagles move to 5-2 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC East. Bloomsburg moves to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in the East.
In doubles, Bloomsburg took two out of three matches to earn the doubles team point for the contest.
At No. 3 doubles, Claire Long, a Central Mountain graduate, and Alaina Marchioni, a Montoursville graduate, continue their hot run as a team, securing a 7-5 win, improving their team record to 4-1 and their doubles records to 4-1 and 3-1, respectively.
