MILL HALL — Two of the area’s best limited late model drivers put on a show for the fans on Friday night at the Clinton County Speedway. A late race pass in lapped traffic secured the win for Andrew Yoder edging out Lane Snook.
Jay Fannasy won the winged sportsman feature, Cory Long of Selinsgrove won the pro stocks, Jeffrey Weaver of Lock Haven won the 270 micro sprints and Matt Weaver won the four cylinders.
Andrew Yoder started on the outside of the front row for the start of the annual Len Stroud Jr. Memorial 25-lap race for the limited late models. Yoder led the initial lap as JR Toner of State College and Jeremey Ohl of Jersey Shore rounded out the top three.
Snook, who started sixth, moved into second place by the completion of lap two. By lap ten, Yoder was leading Snook, Toner, Dylan Yoder of Middleburg, and Maddox Smith of Renovo. On lap 11, Yoder slid high in turn two allowing Snook to take the lead.
On lap 15, the leaders were in lapped traffic with Snook leading, Andrew Yoder, Dylan Yoder, Toner, and Smith. Snook appeared to be on his way to securing his second win of the season at the one-third-mile oval. As Snook weaved his way through lapped traffic, Yoder was able to close in.
Coming out of turn four with two laps remaining, Snook tried to go under a lapped car, as Yoder took the outside line. Yoder made the pass coming out of turn number four to lead the lap as the leaders came to the white flag.
Yoder held on to win the race, his second consecutive Stroud Memorial, over Snook, Dylan Yoder, JR Toner and Trent Merkel. Sixth through tenth were Smith, Kaiden Bard, Ludas Adams, Jeremey Ohl and Jennifer Lesher.
The winged sportsman made their first ever appearance at the speedway. John Edkin and Scott Dellinger led the field to the drop of the green flag. Edkin took the lead as he led Dellinger into turns one and two. Fourth place starter, Jay Fannasy, quickly moved into the third position followed by Mike Enders and Kenny Edkin. At the halfway point, John Edkins was in a close battle with Dellinger and Fannassy.
On the next circuit, Fannasy made a move and passed both Dellinger and Edkin to take the lead. Dellinger passed Edkin for 2nd on lap number thirteen. Fannasy led the remaining laps to secure the victory over Dellinger, Edkin, Brock Hammaker and Barry Thomas.
Michale Barrett led the opening lap of the Pro Stock feature event. Fourth place starter Cory Long raced to the front and took the lead by the completion of lap number two. Seventh place starter AJ Hoffman took the second spot on lap two, while eighth-place starter, Brandon Moser took the third position on lap four.
The top three remained unchanged for the duration of the event. Denny Fourney finished fourth and AY Schilling was fifth. Sixth through tenth were Larry Knight, Rich Fye, Marc Bitler, Tommy Dawson and Ron Ergott.
Jeffery Weaver jumped into the lead from this fourth starting spot by the completion of lap number one. By lap five, Weaver was leading Michael Petock, Cory Stabley, Andrew Petock, and Mac Wert. Wert started moving forward and was up to third by lap ten.
Matt Weaver charged from this third place starting postion to the front of the pack. Weaver led the first lap and paced the field to lead every lap. Zak Kline was in second until Hunter Flook passed him on lap number four. The top three ran in that order until the checkered flag waved.
The Clinton County Speedway will host the RaceSaver sprints, pro stocks, 270 micros and four cylinders this Friday night.
