Bucktail hosts tough foe vs. Keystone
After a promising Week 5 affair at Smethport, the young Bucktail football team struggled to carry that resurgent fourth quarter forward, falling to Otto-Eldred/Oswayo Valley by a score of 50-8. In its return to its home field in Week 7, it’ll look to re-establish that success against Keystone (3-3), with that outing being set for 7 p.m.
Behind a rushing attack that’s averaging 268 yards per game, the Panthers have had a strong start to the season, mostly notably putting together a two-game win streak that featured lopsided win over Kane (56-19) and Moniteau (62-8) before falling in heartbreaking fashion to Brockway. Like Bucktail (1-5), it’ll be looking for a bounce-back win on Friday.
Junior quarterback Dom Corcetti leads Keystone’s offense, having rushed for 742 yards and ten touchdowns on 84 attempts. He’s averaging just under nine yards per carry through six games and has been quietly efficient as a passer, completing 54-percent of his throws with a nine-to-four touchdown-to-interception ratio.
Apart from Corcetti, the Panthers have three other rushers that have attributed over 180 yards, with junior Eli Nellis proving impactful as both a rusher (58-421-3) and receiver (19-291-3).
For Bucktail, the key offensively will be getting freshman quarterback Corbin Pentz back on track.
Through six games, Pentz has thrown for 574 yards on a 61-percent completion rate while posting a six-to-two touchdown-to-interception ratio. Alongside him, sophomore Teagan Stone is another standout to keep an eye on, leading the team in both rushing (131) and receiving yards (307) on 32 touches.
