Sugar Valley set for sectionals at HHS this morning

The Central Sectional boys wrestling tournament gets underway today at 10 a.m. at Hughesville High School and a handful of Sugar Valley wrestlers are hoping to make runs to the podium and qualify for next week’s District 4 championships at Williamsport’s Magic Dome.

At 107 pounds, Sugar Valley’s Taylor Cantolina is seeded fifth in the seven-wrestler field with a 14-9 record. He faces Loyalsock freshman Miles Ransom-Rennicks in the quarterfinals with the winner having a tall task in facing Montgomery’s Gabe Oberheim, a freshman who’s 42-5 and ranked fifth in the state.

Sugar Valley’s Tobias Conoway, a sophomore, is seeded seventh at 121. The Sugar Valley wrestler enters with an 18-7 record and has a quarterfinal matchup against Benton’s Sam Cumberland, a sophomore who is 22-6 and seeded second. The top seed at 121 is Montgomery sophomore Liam Seeley who is 29-6 and ranked No. 23 in the state.

Sugar Valley junior Hunter Baney is seeded fourth at 127 with a 22-5 record. He faces Montoursville junior Brody Bower (17-13) in the quarterfinals with the winner facing either Cole Horrax of Central Columbia or 15th-ranked Carden Wagner (33-10) of Montgomery.

Gabe Standish of Sugar Valley is a sophomore and enters sectionals 14-12 and seeded seventh in the 133 field. He faces Hughesville’s Ethan Wodrig, the No. 2 seed in the field, who is 27-16, in the quarterfinals. The winner will wrestle either Jonah Caputo of South Williamsport or Kase Snyder of Muncy.

Sugar Valley sophomore Landon Fletcher (6-10) will face Central Columbia freshman Garrett Panco (13-16) in the first round with the winner advancing to wrestle eighth-ranked Chase Boozer (33-3) of Muncy in the quarterfinals.

In the 145 bracket, Sugar Valley’s Wyatt Conoway (16-10) is a senior and has a quarterfinal matchup with Loyalsock junior Ivan Baker (25-7). The top seed at 145 is Montgomery senior Brandt Harer who is 45-0 and ranked No. 2 in the state.

At 152, Sugar Valley’s Daedreynn Hopkins (10-18), a sophomore, wrestles against Montoursville’s Haze Mullens in the first round wtih the winner advancing to face second-seeded Kayden Keefer of Loyalsock (19-4) in the quarterfinals. The top seed is Montgomery’s Trace Furman (35-7), who is ranked No. 16 in Pennsylvania.

Sugar Valley’s Grayson Hastings (11-9) has a tough draw in the 160 field as he has a quarterfinal matchup against No. 27th-ranked Blake Frey (20-8) of Montoursville. The top seed at 160 is Hughesville’s Kile Hartman, a junior who is 35-10 and ranked No. 23 in Pennsylvania.
