Local roundup: Central Mountain boys tennis fall to Montoursville in thriller
Montourville is 4-2 following a 3-2 win against Central Mountain on Monday afternoon. Central Mountain claimed two singles victories.
At No. 1, Joey McCloskey beat Montoursville’s Colby Ulmer, 6-0, 6-3, and at No. 2, the Wildcats’ Tim Brinker beat Cole Snyder, 6-3, 2-6, 10-6. Montoursville’s Rain Snyder had a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles for the Warriors.
Montoursville’s Cullen Pauling and Mason Fry beat Central Mountain’s Gage Scanlan and Ben Brinker at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, Montoursville’s Conner Goerge and Ben Heitsenrether picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Mason Teple and Gavin Eddmonston.
In softball, Bellefonte weathered a tight start en route to a 7-1 victory over Bishop Guilfoyle at home. After going into the fourth tied at 1-1, the Red Raiders notched three runs there and an extra three in the sixth to run away with it late and improve to 2-0.
Abby Herr put together a showing for the ages from the mound, striking out a career-high 17 batters through seven innings pitched while allowing just a hit and two walks. Offensively, five Red Raiders logged multiple hits, with Ella Herr finishing with three and Aralynn Carson leading the team in RBIs with two.
Bellefonte baseball made it five straight victories to open the season on Monday, defeating Bishop Guilfoyle, 11-0, on the road behind strong showings on both sides. The Red Raiders scored three or more runs in the first, fifth and sixth.
On the mound, Triston Heeman tossed a six-inning four-hitter, posting a shutout while striking out six batters. Four Red Raiders logged multiple hits offensively, with Evan Mattern, Jack McHail and Isaac Gall attributing multiple RBIs.
