Persing, Osborne lift LHU softball to extra-inning victory over Kutztown
LOCK HAVEN – Faith Persing was dominant on the mound and at the plate and Evelyn Osborne hit a walk-off single to lead the Lock Haven softball team to a 6-5 come-from-behind victory in game two of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East doubleheader on Monday afternoon at Lawrence Field. KU won game one, 4-1.
With the split, Lock Haven moves to 12-12, 4-6 PSAC and Kutztown is now 15-11, 6-2 PSAC.
Game 2: Lock Haven 6, Kutztown 5 (8 Innings)
In the nightcap, Faith Persing (3-3) limited Kutztown to two runs in five innings of relief and finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored at the plate.
With the game tied 5-5 in the bottom of the eighth, Persing drove in the tying run on a triple down the right field run, before scoring the game-winner on an RBI single by Evelyn Osborne to propel The Haven to the win.
Kutztown led 3-1 through five innings, but Madison Harvy belted a two-run home run to dead center to knot the score at 3-3, setting up the dramatic finish.
Hailey Irwin finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Hardy drove in a pair with a homer and Olivia LaMeau drove in run.
Game 1: Kutztown 4, Lock Haven 1
In game one, Kutztown opened the scoring with a solo run in the first, but Lock Haven evened the game in the bottom of the second with a solo homer, her third of the year.
However, Kutztown scored three runs in the top of the sixth and didn’t surrender another run the rest of the way to secure the victory.
Talia Ross (8-4) tossed five innings for The Haven and allowed four runs on four hits and struck out seven batters. Keiva Middleton pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
On offense, Melius homered and LaMeau and Irwin (2B) finished with a pair of hits.
The Bald Eagles continue their homestand by hosting East Stroudsburg in a 2 p.m. PSAC East doubleheader at Lawrence Field tomorrow.
