Business startups here build a positive image, vibrancy

e should be proud that Pennsylvania U.S. Sen. Bob Casey stopped by Lock Haven’s business district earlier this week to talk to entrepreneurs to tout the success of new businesses filling storefronts here. In our book, Lock Haven and Clinton County are a leader in new business generation. While admitting that we’ve not been formally tracking the number of startups in the county over say the last 18 months, we’d venture to say based on our coverage of ribbon cuttings and stories that it’s in the dozens. Nationally, new business statistics from 2022 show that over 3.8 million ...

If you resolve to do anything this year …

Get outdoors! The weather today, Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, might be rainy, foggy and sort of depressing — save for the much-warmer-then-normal temperature — but just the thought of being able to get outdoors lifts the spirits. Benefits to your health and well-being come first, of course. But the rewards are far-reaching to your community and the businesses and venues that improve your quality of life. And the national, mainstream media bases its coverage on social ...

Throughout the season, several factors can disrupt the ability of the Red Cross to collect enough blood for patients across the country. “Travel: According to a recent study, nearly half of Americans plan to travel over the holidays this year, which may negatively impact the blood supply if fewer people come out to donate. “Seasonal illness: The U.S. is seeing a ...

Craving for recognition

The day I die, my branch of the family tree will die as well. I don’t have any children who could carry on our genes or pay the fee for our family grave in Austria. Ten years after my death, the cemetery staff will remove our gravestone and give the spot to strangers. It’ll be as if we’d never existed. It’s indeed a weird law that people in Austria don’t own their graves but have to pay for using it. My grandmother’s brother was out of luck. As nobody was willing to pay the fee for him, his name was replaced with a stranger’s. When I was in Austria this past ...
