American Legion Auxiliary celebrates America250, veterans with essay contest at LHCS

LOCK HAVEN — Representatives of Lock Haven’s chapter of the American Legion Auxiliary recently celebrated America’s 250th birthday and veterans who fought for our freedom with an essay contest at Lock Haven Catholic School.
There were three groupings, with a first, second and third place winner announced. They included:
— Class I, third and fourth grades: First place, Aubrey Savrock; Second place, Sila Wert; Third place, Adelyn Spamgler.
— Class II, fifth and sixth grades: First place, Sydney Walker; Second place, Alex Miller; Third place, Ethan Adgate.
— Class III, seventh and eighth grades: First place, Warren Miller; Second place, Savannah Persun; Third place, Finnegan McElroy.
Awards and certificates were presented at an assembly at the school.
First, second and third place winners received monetary gift cards for Walmart and first place winners for Centre, Lycoming and Clinton Council also received a monetary gift card for Walmart.
Certificates and awards were presented by William Marshall Crawford American Legion Auxiliary Unit #131’s President, Dori Schenck, and Americanism Chair, Carol Wert Walker.
There were a total of 55 students who participated in the Americanism Essay Competition from the catholic school.
Each and every student that participated received a personalized laminated “Certificate of Participation!”
First place in Class I (Aubrey Savrock), also placed first on Centre, Lycoming and Clinton Counties level and will be judged on levels throughout our state and could go on to the National level.
