Howard native among SRU’s Army ROTC cadets recognized

SLIPPERY ROCK — A Howard native was among 26 cadets from Slippery Rock University’s U.S. Army ROTC program to become commissioned officers, April 30, in the Smith Student Center Ballroom. Because of COVID-19 safety measures to restrict large indoor gatherings, the commissioning took place in two private ceremonies at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Jordan Confer, a computing major, took part in the ceremonies. Collin Jones named to D3hoops.com’s All-Region Team

ANNVILLE — Lebanon Valley College’s Collin Jones of Mill Hall, was named to D3hoops.com’s All-Atlantic/Mid-Atlantic Second Team. Back in March, Jones was named the Middle Atlantic Conference’s (MAC) Commonwealth Player of the Year after being a dominant force all season for LVC, who made it all the way to the MAC Commonwealth Championship game last month. Jones averaged 20.2 points per game, good for second in the conference, while also grabbing 8.7 rebounds per contest, also the second-best mark in the league. MILL HALL — Collin Jones of Mill Hall, competed for the Flying Dutchmen during the Winter 2020-2021 sports season. Jones, a graduate of Central Mountain High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in digital communications at Lebanon Valley College. Jones was a member of the men’s basketball team which completed a shortened season in 2021 due to COVID-19. The Dutchmen finished with an 8-3 overall record and reached the MAC Commonwealth Championship Game for the first time since 2017-18. LVC won its first six games of the season for their best start since 1998-99.
