Greyhounds

Nittany Greyhounds will hold a Meet & Greet event on Saturday, Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pet Supplies Plus, 277 Northland Center, State College. The public can come to meet retired racing greyhounds and learn about greyhounds as pets. Lovingly known as 45-mile-an-hour couch potatoes, retired racers adapt well to living in homes. Since 1995, Nittany Greyhounds has found forever homes for more than 2,000 greyhounds, in Centre County and beyond. For more information, visit NittanyGreys.org or call 814-933-6981.

Blood Drives

The American Red Cross urges people to donate blood now. All blood donors are needed, especially those with type O blood. Several blood drives will be happening during the next few weeks that donors can attend. Visit the Red Cross website or call 1-800-RED CROSS to arrange an appointment. Walk-ins are also welcomed!

Blood drives will be held on the following dates:

On Aug. 6, from 12:30-6 p.m., at the Howard Fire Co.

On Aug. 19, from 1:30-6 p.m., at the Porter Township Building, Mill Hall.

On Aug. 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, 1175 W. Fourth St., Flemington. St. Luke’s “world famous” root beer floats will be served.

Alzheimer’s Fundraiser

You’re invited to join the fight against Alzheimer’s during the annual “Jail and Bail” Fundraiser set for Aug. 6 at 22 Cree Drive in Lock Haven. Support the Alzheimer’s Foundation in a fun and impactful way by being a participant to help raise awareness and funds — whether you’re volunteering to be “locked up” or helping to pay bail, every bit makes a big difference. Brungard Reunion Postponed

The 2025 97th Brungard Family Reunion is being postponed due to conflicting schedules. Family members should save the date for the 2026 reunion which will be held on Aug. 9.
