LOCK HAVEN — The Salvation Army’s “Closet of Care” program opened back up this past Friday after being closed during the Holidays. The Closet of Care program is a free clothing program open to anyone in the community. The program was started when The Salvation Army’s Thrift Store closed so the organization could continue to give away free clothing for those in need.
For the month of January, 108 people were served through the program, and 1,262 clothing items were given away. This past month, the program was also able to give away toiletries. A total of 236 toiletries were distributed and 61 people were served.
The program relies solely on donations from the community. If you are interested in donating clothing for the program, donations are accepted the last full week of the month on Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please bring donations inside of the building. Do not leave donations in the parking lot or by the doors. Clothing items accepted include gently used men’s, women’s, children and infant clothing as well as shoes. Please refrain from donating undergarments, including socks, unless they are new in the package.
The next Closet of Care will be open on Friday, Feb. 27, from 9-11 a.m. Again the program is completely free and open to all. If you would like more information about the program or donating items, please call The Salvation Army office at 570-748-2951. You can also follow them on Facebook @ The Salvation Army-Lock Haven.
