LOCK HAVEN — Downtown Lock Haven, Inc. is gearing up for another event-filled year as it continues to encourage area residents and beyond to Shop Local throughout 2024.

The first upcoming event is a partnership between DLH and the Commonwealth University-Lock Haven Womens’ Lacrosse team.

After a successful Easter Egg Hunt last year, which brought hundreds of people to Canal Park, the lacrosse team is taking the reins of the event and holding it on March 28 at Charlotte E. Smith Field on the university’s campus. The start time for the event is expected to be 5 p.m.

DLH will look to keep its streets beautiful in celebration of Earth Day with an Earth Day Clean Up scheduled for April 22.

From April 28 to May 4, DLH will show the love to its downtown businesses once again during National Small Business Appreciation Week. Similar to last year, DLH plans to place large letters which spell “We Love Our Small Businesses” in Triangle Park and, as always, will continue to encourage area residents to check out all the shops downtown has to offer.

DLH’s second largest event of the year — Best of Clinton County — is set to take place Saturday, June 15, following approval of a street closure request to the City of Lock Haven and PennDOT.

With this approval, as in years past, Main Street will be closed from Jay Street to Mill Street and vendors will line the roadway. All this will lead up to the annual parade.

With approval from its board of directors, DLH is planning to continue its Final Friday Street closures this year, and hopes to make them bigger and better attractions.

Four total Fridays from May to September — pending approval from the City of Lock Haven and PennDOT — will see the closure of Main Street from Jay Street to Vesper Street to allow outdoor dining, games and more.

The expected dates are: May 31, July 26, Aug. 30 and Sept. 27. Plans are the works to put a creative spin on these dates as well.

The next event, and DLH’s biggest and busiest, will be Haven Holidays and Small Business Saturdays.

Holiday lights will be strung along Main Street and Triangle Park will be decorated leading up to the Christmas Tree Lighting on Nov. 24 between 6 and 6:30 p.m.

Next up will be Haven Holidays and the first of four Small Business Saturdays. The kick off, as in years past, will feature events, activities and the annual parade. Haven Holidays is planned for Nov. 30.

Small Business Saturdays will continue each Saturday from Dec. 1 to Dec. 21.

Outside of events, the non-profit’s Design Committee plans to continue placing murals on electrical boxes downtown. The boxes were put in place by PennDOT during stoplight replacement.

So far three of the boxes have murals, which depict various aspects of the city’s historical district. These murals, and the new ones are paid for through a grant from the Clinton County Community Foundation.

Starting at $3.69/week.
