A large crowd of eager shoppers couldn’t wait to check out the Marshalls store Thursday morning. The parking lot was packed by its opening at 8 a.m., and people could be seen perusing the variety of items available in the store.

Marshalls is an American chain of off-price department stores owned by TJX Companies. The company also owns TJ Maxx, Home Goods, Sierra and Homesense.

With shelves lined with goods to fit your every need, Marshalls offers everything from clothing, shoes, beauty and accessories, baby items and so much more. With new items and styles arriving all the time, shoppers have the opportunity to discover new high-quality name brand designs.

Since Kmart — the shop that previously filled that space — officially closed its doors in 2017, the lot has sat vacant.

Zamagias, a Pittsburgh based developer who owns the plaza, announced in August that Marshalls would be filling a huge chunk of the space left behind.

“We’d like to thank Zamagias Properties… with working to get tenants in the old Kmart facility. With Marshalls, Ollie’s and Harbor Freight, the former Kmart space — which was over 90,000 square feet — is now almost 100 percent filled with new tenants,” Flanagan said in a previous conversation with The Express.

The employees were all chipper and excited to greet customers on their way in the door on Thursday, offering a welcoming experience for everyone involved.

“So far it’s been great! My experience here has been great too. I just moved here from Florida and everyone has been so welcoming,” said one of the Marshall’s employees, Kirlen, who was greeting shoppers and offering them assistance on the day of opening.

There were many shoppers in the store bright and early on the day of opening, browsing the shelves and finding great deals.

One shopper, Ashley, was excited about the prospect of new stores coming into the area.

“It’s awesome. Our community and our area has been growing — downtown Lock Haven has been growing,” she said. “This is going to bring more people to the area. It’s nice to have these kinds of stores here. I’m always driving to Williamsport or State College, so it’s nice to have this in our local area.”

Marshalls’ hours are Monday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
